While the Rolling Stones announce the release of the new single “Jealous Lover”, from the upcoming album “Foreign Tongues”, expected for July 10th, the British magazine Mojo has dedicated a double tribute to Mick Jagger and his companions. First with a top 50 of the best Stones songs, now with the ranking of all their albums “from worst to best”.
“Few would doubt that the albums made by the Rolling Stones between 1964 and 1972 – from their self-titled debut to 'Exile On Main Street' – represent fundamental documents of the formative era of rock – underlines Mark Blake in the introduction – But that was only the first phase of a 64-year long journey, capable of producing many other musical pearls: from 1978's 'Some Girls', with its mix of disco and punk influences, to 'Tattoo You' from 1981, an extraordinary collection of archive materials transformed into a studio album, up to 'Steel Wheels', the vigorous return of 1989 after a period of lull in the 1980s. The Stones' record production has slowed down in the 21st century: 'A Bigger Bang' (2005) arrived after almost ten years without new studio albums, while 'Blue & Lonesome' (2016) was composed. exclusively from blues reinterpretations. However, the relaunch started with 'Hackney Diamonds' in 2023, produced together with Andrew Watt, will soon continue with a new work, 'Foreign Tongues', out on July 10th… While waiting for the new album, we have classified all the studio albums released by the English band, from their beginnings in blues and R&B up to the recent 21st century rebirth”.
