Francesco Renga And Giusy Ferreri they return to sing together with I shouldn't You shouldn'tthe new single released on Friday 19 June 2026 for Atlantic Records Italy/Warner Music Italy. It is a ballad that stages a love at the end of the line told in two voices, where reason and desire pull in the opposite direction and neither of them can really stop.
The song was born from the collaboration built on the Ariston stage: at the cover evening of Sanremo Festival 2026where Renga was competing with “Il Migliore di Me”, the two had duetted on “Ragazzo solo, Ragazzo Sola”. From that meeting now comes the first song written especially for their voices, signed by Andrea Bonomo and Paolo Antonacci to the notes of Rino Malatesta.
The meaning of I shouldn't You shouldn't Of Renga And Ferreri
The heart of the song is a clandestine relationship that shouldn't exist and which is why it burns more. The two protagonists see each other secretly, they know it's wrong and they continue to look for each other anyway. The title, repeated as a shared admission, photographs exactly this contradiction: both know what they “shouldn't” do, and they do it anyway.
The most effective production choice is the two-point-of-view structure. The voices of Renga And Ferreri they don't just take turns: they answer, complete each other's sentences, stage a dialogue where the same sentence (“I shouldn't, you shouldn't”) becomes accusation and confession at the same time. It is a love told from within, without the comforting distance of those who look at the story from the outside.
Images that play on the contrast between lightness and wound also return: “You too have some wonderful flaws” is an oxymoron that summarizes the ambivalence of the entire relationship, while “that I always die quickly” puts the end in the foreground right into the verse. The text remains direct, built on everyday phrases rather than elaborate metaphors, and it is precisely this concreteness that makes it recognizable to the listener.

The text of I shouldn't You shouldn't
Look, there's not a soul around
Except the two of us
It was clear from the start
You never kiss a friend
And don't tell anyone
What did I do to see you
Because I know they end
These cursed years
But what do you do when you go?
Do you think again of me?
Me too, I shouldn't, you shouldn't
Instead, it's not bad to feel like your heart is in a thousand pieces
You and me
You are right
What are you asking me to do? We hide like criminals
And everyone else is happy
Under the sun, huh
What did you see there the first time?
It was already love
Please stop
To have clear eyes
That I always die quickly
This time too, let's forget about it
But what do you do when you go? (When are you going?)
Do you think again of me?
Me too, I shouldn't, you shouldn't
Instead, it's not bad to feel like your heart is in a thousand pieces
You and me
You are right
What are you asking me to do? We hide like criminals
And everyone else is happy
Under the sun, huh
How many beds, be careful
You too have some wonderful flaws
How come, how come you think of me again?
Yes, I know, I shouldn't, you shouldn't
You are right
What are you asking me to do? We hide like criminals
And everyone else is happy
Under the sun, huh
What did you see there the first time?
It was already love
