From Prince's archives, a new chapter from his immense musical legacy. “Timeless” will be released on August 28, a posthumous album created by The Prince Estate in collaboration with Legacy Recordings and Sony Music. The album collects ten rare and previously unreleased recordings, selected between 1977 and 2016, with the aim of offering an overview of the entire artistic career of the Minneapolis musician. This is the first recording project conceived to span all the main phases of Prince's career, from the first sessions made as a teenager to the last years of his activity. The result is a sound story that highlights the continuity of his creative research over almost four decades.
“Timeless” will be available in digital format, on black vinyl and on CD. There will also be a limited edition on purple marble vinyl, distributed exclusively through the official Sony Music store. The announcement also included initiatives dedicated to collectors, with exclusive merchandise available through Paisley Park and Prince.com, including items created for the 2026 Prince Celebration.
Accompanying the news comes the single “Stone”, recorded in the spring of 1995 and written by Sandra St. Victor, Tom Hammer and Jules Van Even. The song represents the first taste of the material contained in the collection (you can listen to it below).
The album will be at the center of Prince Celebration 2026, scheduled for June 3-7 between Paisley Park and Minneapolis. The event will feature dedicated listening sessions, presentations of archive material and meetings with the artist's historic collaborators, offering fans privileged access to new discoveries from Prince's famous archive.
The 2026 edition of the event coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Prince Celebration. For the occasion, the mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, proclaimed the period from 1 to 7 June “Prince Celebration Week”, recognizing the decisive role of the artist in the cultural history of the city. On June 6, the Minneapolis skyline will also be lit up in purple in homage to the musician who helped make the city known throughout the world.
The release of “Timeless” was anticipated last April 2 by “With This Tear”, released on the tenth anniversary of Prince's death. Recorded in Paisley Park in November 1991, the song sees the American artist involved in every aspect of its creation: composition, arrangement, production and instrumental interpretation.
