“Small inhabitant of Saturn”It is the new musical journey signed Woodthe Tuscan duo that continues to tell the emotions of the human soul with delicacy and depth.
Eleven intense songs, suspended between melancholy and hope, which cross the complex dynamics of love and solitude.
We talked about it with them, between songs that know of inner escapes and small hidden universes.
“Little inhabitant of Saturn” is an evocative and cosmic title. Who is this figure?
The small inhabitant of Saturn is not a concrete figure, but rather a reflection of our unconscious, who has perceived the need to move away, to leave towards an introspective journey. A path that allows her to leave behind what you no longer need it, what hurts her. Often we hear that we are eternal dreamers, who want to leave to get rid of everything, in a figurative sense. Here, the intent was precisely to give a form visible to this feeling, to this need to escape, to renew itself.
The album touches deep themes such as solitude, alienation and the need for authenticity. What prompted you to investigate so deeply in the folds of the human soul?
We wanted to tell everything we have experienced in recent years, from the most difficult moments to the happiest ones and also to the periods of delusion that we have experienced, especially during the tour. For us it is essential to be able to express our discomfort through the lyrics and songs; It is a way to vent emotions and deal with what has marked us. We grew up, we got naked to share a fragment of our life. Loneliness is a condition that consumes you inside, and we have had the opportunity to face it, to analyze it. It was not easy, but it was a necessary path. Small inhabitant of Saturn is a deeply personal album, and for this reason we feel so close, so ours.
In the “Girotondo” with Gio spoken of the quarrels as an inevitable part of the bonds. What kind of dialogue was there between you and Thu during the creation of the song?
With Gio there is a deep friendship. We met in Eveland and from that moment it was a real pleasure to share the writing of this song together. Thu is an extremely sensitive and profound person, with a unique connection towards everything that is earthly, emotional and relational – a quality they have. It is a matter of sensitivity. With him we learned that there are moments that must be lived fully before we can tell them, and that the lightness with which we face certain things is the basis of everything. Girotondo is a very important piece for us, because it manages, with a few verses, to express this beautiful truth.
In “Stupid Song” with Marco Masini a sweet melancholy is perceived. How was this featuring born and what did you leave you?
We are talking about Marco Masini, a real legend of Italian music. We grew up listening to his songs, and for us this collaboration represents the most important goal we have ever reached. It is an absolute honor. Sharing a song with Marco was like seeing a dream that finally comes true. The song tells the final cry of a relationship, the last breath before the end, when the voice breaks and all that remains is to dedicate a “stupid song”. Marco has been able to instill an even deeper meaning to the piece, with his voice, one of the most beautiful that Italy has ever had. It was an incredible moment. The artwork of the album was designed as a bridge between music and painting.
How was it to work with Alessio Londi and see your emotions turn into images?
Alessio Londi is an artist capable of transforming the complexity of topics into abstract and pungent images, like a modern alchemist of the forms. He gave birth to the entire album, translating the words into visions that detach themselves from reality and touch the concept of pop art, combining the power of the message to a visual force. His work, imbued with references to the art of street and the energy of Keith Haring's works, becomes the bearer of a universal language that speaks without mediation.
Each corner of the cover tells a fragment of our music, made tangible through an accurate work of artistic research that has explored the texts of our songs to the point of dissecting them, restoring emotions and visions. With his impeccable touch, Alessio gave us a work of art that is not only a cover, but a visual declaration, an explosion of colors and meanings that for us is something extraordinary, almost revolutionary.
Your public image – between anonymity and masks – is always very cared for. Is it a choice to protect you or to better tell your vision?
Wood has a well -defined identity, represented by a box. It is difficult for us to separate from this image, but we don't want to hide behind a mask. We are free, and we don't mind someone can recognize us. However, at the beginning, when the idea of wearing a box was born, we would never have imagined that it would become such a profound part of our being, of our image. We are wood, our fans, and all the people who want to wear this mask to face their insecurities and fragility. It has become a sort of symbol for those trying to fight with what is often not seen, but which is part of each of us.
If you could send a song of this album in space, to another planet … which one would you choose and why?
On Saturn we will send the other half of the moon, the one that is never visible from there. A symbolic act, like a message launched by a distant world, which reflects the hidden part, the one that escapes the sight and that only those who are far away can perceive. A gesture that speaks of what remains outside the horizon, but which, while remaining invisible, continues to influence us and to give us form.
