The new song by Boy George, also shared on X and Instagram with the title in Hebrew עוד נרקוד (We Will Dance Again), is a song that opens with words intended to spark discussion: “You say genocide, I say war / When you're attacked, that's what the army's for / Does it get ugly? You bet it does / When I know you wanna kill every last one of us”
In the text, the Culture Club singer also mentions the attack on the Nova Music Festival, during which hundreds of people were killed or taken hostage by Hamas, defining the civilian victims as people murdered “for the crime of dancing”. And in the chorus he reiterates his support for the Jewish community: “There will be no war / But if you're ever confused / I stand with the Jews / I don't feel brave, I just need to behave like a human.”
Boy George also attacks the pro-Palestinian movement and some artists who have condemned Israel, singing: “You condemn the Jews, with selective memory / Musicians holding flags, mouthing like sheep / Propaganda fueled by the internet feels so weak.”
It is not the first time that the singer has publicly addressed the topic. In a recent interview with the Telegraph he explained his personal connection with the Jewish community. While after the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green last April, he declared: “We must let our Jewish community know that we support them.”
Only a few months ago, however, Boy George had taken a more nuanced position. Interviewed on the occasion of his participation with San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest, answering questions about the boycott of the event by some countries opposed to the presence of Israel, he said: «Do they ask me, who have principles, to turn my back on my Jewish friends? This will never happen. From the beginning of my career I have worn the Star of David… I feel very connected to the Jewish people. I'm not necessarily tied to Israel. I don't have a precise opinion on the matter. But the mission of music is to bring people together.” With We Will Dance Again that mission seems to have morphed into explicit support for Israel.
