Faith No More are officially back in business. After years of uncertainty, less than encouraging statements and a long break, Mike Patton's band has announced four concerts in Australia and New Zealand together with System Of A Down. They will be the group's first live performances since 2016.
There reunion it had been anticipated in June by an enigmatic post on social media, but confirmation arrived on July 26: Faith No More and System Of A Down will be co-headliner of four major stadium concerts between January and February 2027. For the moment no further dates have been announced, although the announcement immediately raised hopes of a larger tour.
It is yet another chapter in a story marked by dissolutions and returns. Having permanently joined the lineup in 1988, Mike Patton led Faith No More in their most famous season, until they disbanded in 1998. The group got back together in 2009 and in the following years resumed live activity, releasing “Sol Invictus” in 2015, their first studio album after 18 years. In 2016 there was also a short one reunion with ex-singer Chuck Mosley, who died the following year.
A new return was planned for 2020, but the concerts were canceled due to the pandemic and later rescheduled for 2021. Those dates were also cancelled, however, this time due to mental health issues faced by Patton. The singer would later say that he suffered from agoraphobia and that he went through a period marked by alcohol abuse.
In the following years, however, Patton did not abandon music. He resumed activity with Dead Cross, continued to perform with Mr. Bungle and, in February 2026, also returned to the stage with Tomahawk for their first concert in thirteen years.
On the future of Faith No More, however, signs had arrived that were anything but reassuring. Bill Gould and Mike Bordin had expressed strong doubts about the possibility of a new activity for the band, while keyboardist Roddy Bottum had explicitly spoken of a “semi-permanent break”. The announcement of the new concerts therefore overturns a scenario that seemed headed towards an indefinite suspension.
For now, Faith No More's return remains limited to four dates with System Of A Down. But after more than a decade away from the stage, the reunion inevitably reopens the question of a possible international tour.
