Lou Koller, the frontman of the New York hardcore band Sick of It All, has died. The singer had been battling adenocarcinoma for some time. He was 59 years old.
“It is with incredible sadness that we announce to the world of the hardcore community that Lou Koller has passed away,” reads a post from the band on social media. “This loss overwhelms us.”
“This year would have marked Sick of it All's 40th anniversary as a band,” the post continues. «Lou's team spirit, commitment and enthusiasm have always been unwavering over the years. We have lost a dear friend and a unique frontman. Lou had the power to lift everyone's spirits with a smile and a sarcastic quip, and he won over audiences wherever we played, of every culture and in every corner of the world.”
“In this time of intense grief, we must once again recognize the great help and support offered by all those who donated to Lou's medical care fund. You all helped Lou feel special and loved as he struggled these last two years. His battle is now over and he can finally rest. We hope that in some way he can still see and feel the mark he left on the world.”
In June 2024, Koller announced to fans that doctors had found a tumor in his esophagus that had spread to his stomach, forcing him to stop touring.
