Lana Del Rey surprises fans with a new update on her long-awaited comeback. Through a long message published on Instagram, the American singer-songwriter revealed that “Stove”, the album that should mark her return after “Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” in 2023, will be accompanied by a second album, described as a complementary work born during the last four years.
In the post, Del Rey talks about a period marked by expectations, changes and moments of uncertainty. “I spent so much time waiting for things to work out and just as much time wondering if it was okay that everything was falling apart,” she writes. Precisely from that phase of doubts new songs would be born, reflections on old friends, new dreams and a different perspective on one's artistic path. Using a botanical metaphor, he explains that a new rose bush has sprouted from the tree he feared would never grow: an image that represents the second album.
If “Stove” is defined as “a classic album”, complete and faithful to its original conception, its sister album developed spontaneously with the passage of time. According to the singer, it is a sort of commentary on everything that has happened during these years, a work that tells of the patience needed to face change and the trust required when things don't seem to work.
Lana Del Rey thanked all the musicians and collaborators involved in the project, explaining that she still needed about a month to complete the second album before sending both works to be pressed on vinyl. He defines them without hesitation as “my most beautiful works”. In the message he then compares life to the unpredictable course of a river: you cannot control its direction, you simply have to let yourself be carried away. “I've written about all this. Now it's time to trust the process and let yourself go with the flow,” he concludes. There is even a joke addressed to the fans: “I am grateful to all those who are still on the boat with me. And of course I wish the best to those who remained on the shore. I'm joking… I thought we were all in the same boat.”
The announcement comes after a long series of postponements and title changes for the project. The album was initially presented as “Lasso”, then renamed “The Right Person Will Stay” and finally “Stove”, a name which, as the artist herself suggests, may not however be definitive.
To accompany the post, Del Rey also published some images that further fuel curiosity. Among these appear the covers of two vinyl records: one shows a portrait of him framed by flowers with the title “Stove”, while the other depicts a boat with the name “Spyda”, which could be the title of the mysterious companion album. The sequence is completed by photographs and short videos of fireworks, July 4th celebrations, the Ralph Lauren boots that the singer had been looking for for months after noticing them at New York Fashion Week and a film in which she dances with her cat while wearing a Chanel bag. A collage of enigmatic, nostalgic images perfectly in line with Lana Del Rey's imagination.
