Francesca Michielin transforms one of the most recognizable games of Italian childhood into a single. It's called Witch Commands and comes out Friday June 5th on all digital platforms for Columbia Records / Sony Music Italy, accompanied by the official video clip. It is the song that anticipates White Magicthe new album arriving on June 12th.
The meaning of the lyrics of “Strega Comanda” by Francesca Michielin
The title immediately recalls a shared memory: that game made of colours, chases and orders shouted out loud. In the song, however, that memory becomes a metaphor for identity and the freedom to choose who to be. Michielin takes up one of the most recognizable rituals of childhood and overturns the figure of the witch, freeing her from her traditional role: no longer the one who assigns the rules of the game, but the symbol of those who take control of their own history and choose their own colors without asking anyone's permission.
Color, from a simple element of the game, thus becomes an expression of identity and plurality. The witch becomes a contemporary figure, an image of the courage to be oneself. Between irony, sensuality and pop immediacy, according to the artist's story the song celebrates the power of inhabiting one's own space in the world with awareness and joy: a small pop spell built on an imagery rooted in Italian popular culture.

The release to open Pride Month
The announcement of the single came on June 1st, at the opening of Pride Month, a moment that for Francesca Michielin has a particular weight: this year she is in fact among the ambassadors of Roma Pride together with Levant And Margherita Vicario. A coincidence that reinforces the message of freedom, inclusion and self-determination at the center of the song, and which naturally links to the reading of the witch as a figure who claims her own voice.
“Witch Commands” in the White Magic concept
The single is the fifth track of White Magicbuilt as a real concept album in form and themes. The album intertwines dungeon synth, medieval atmospheres and 80s sounds, with stories of ladies and witches that are reflected in the contemporary world. The first excerpt had already anticipated it, A woman can'tpresented at the Concertone del Primo Maggio, where fantasy language became a tool for talking about gender inequality.
To accompany Witch Commands there is the official video clip, shot during the MI AMI Festival. There Francesca Michielin had surprised the audience by going on stage under the pseudonym of Costanza D'Estean unexpected debut with which he previewed the sound and visual imagery of the new project.
The instores and the summer tour
After the album's release, Francesca Michielin will meet fans in six in-stores: on 12 June at the Feltrinelli Duomo in Milan (6.00 pm), on the 14th at the CC Nave de Vero in Venice (5.00 pm), on the 15th at the Feltrinelli in Trento (6.30 pm), on the 16th at the Semm Music Store in Bologna (6.30 pm), on the 17th at the Mondadori Bookstore in Naples (5.30 pm) and on the 18th at Feltrinelli of Rome (6.30pm).
