Britney Spears' spokesperson has commented on reports that the singer was “irrational” and carrying a knife during a dinner at a restaurant, saying the events have been “completely blown out of proportion.”
“Britney was having a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard,” the spokesperson said in a press release issued to Rolling Stone on Thursday. “He was simply talking about how his dog was barking at the neighbors. At no time did he put anyone in danger. He was just cutting his hamburger in half”:
The denial comes after entertainment journalist Jeffrey Sneider said he dined next to Britney Spears last Wednesday, calling it a “crazy” experience. After Spears left the Sherman Oaks restaurant with her group, Sneider said, “Everyone in the restaurant turned around and started talking about it. A CRAZY dining experience. A client feared for her life. I'm not joking.”
On Thursday morning, TMZ claimed to have all the details of the incident, reporting that during a simple meal of a burger and fries, Spears raised her voice, screamed and barked. At one point, Spears allegedly walked around the restaurant brandishing a knife and attempted to light a cigarette near the entrance.
Spears' representative denied any suggestion that the singer was behaving in a dangerous manner. “This constant attack on everything she does is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to paint Britney as a bad person,” they added. “It's ridiculous and it needs to stop now.”
Last month, Spears pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol after being arrested in March. She then entered a recovery facility for a short period, accepting a 12-month probation period, regular meetings with a psychologist and a psychiatrist, as well as attending a three-month course on drink-driving.
“I am so grateful for my friends and all the wonderful new people I have met on my spiritual journey,” Spears wrote in an Instagram post Saturday, her first public comments in more than a month.
