Victor Willis, the frontman of the disco group Village People, has died at the age of 74. The announcement came via the group's official social media page.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Victor Willis, lead singer of the Village People,” reads the short statement.
The musician, originally from Texas, was co-author of the band's biggest hits, including YMCA, Go West And In The Navy. Willis had left the band in 1980, fighting a years-long legal battle over the copyright of the songs. He had rejoined the group in 2017, and had performed YMCA at President Trump's pre-inaugural rally in January 2025. We told you about it here.
The Village People are expected in Rome on Monday 13 July 2026. For now the event remains confirmed.
