The president was visibly dozing off throughout the late senator's memorial at Washington National Cathedral
Lindsey Graham was laid to rest today, and at least one of his many mourners marked the occasion by getting in a little nap. In several clips of the funeral, Donald Trump was seen openly drifting off in his seat, eyes and head drooping down as the dulcet tones of a political ally's eulogy floated through the room.
Perhaps the president exhausted himself delivering a heartfelt eulogy for his supposedly dear friend. The remarks featured some stirring memorialization of the South Carolina senator, such as noting that he is “sitting, laying, wherever he may be — I think I know where he is, I think he's up there and watching us. I'm pretty sure of it.”
“Virtually everyone liked Lindsey,” Trump said from the lectern at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, before pausing. “Well, not everybody,” he clarified, “but it sounds good, not everybody. He was a tough cookie, I have to be honest. I have to see from this for a second.”
During the rest of the service, Trump veered even further from his script, which probably didn't involve falling asleep during the proceedings.
Keep those eyes open!
Still, for the moments he was awake, Trump showed generosity to his fellow man. Here he is offering JD Vance a Tic Tac.
Trump also managed to summon up a final act of tenderness and respect: a nice, normal little pat on the coffin.
Au revoir, Senator Graham. We'll assume Trump is seeing you in his dreams.
