The British classical music magazine BBC Classical Music returns to dealing with pop-rock music, publishing its ranking of the 25 best albums of the year 1985. A year which – underlines the English magazine – is often described as “a year of transition in the history of rock: a sort of middle ground between the last flashes of post-punk and new wave and the indie guitar rebirth that would characterize the end of the decade. Looking more closely, however, 1985 It reveals an extraordinarily rich, varied and creative year. Established artists pushed into deeper and more personal territory, while new voices forged new sounds by mixing noise, folk, electronica and pop… You hear groups perfecting ideas developed in the early 1980s and others completely demolishing their formulas. From wide-ranging art-pop to lo-fi fury, from stadium sophistication to the most naked emotional sincerity, 1985 represents not a pause, but rather. a convergence. A year in which some of the best albums of the era didn't just get released, but helped define the sound of the future,” concludes Classical Music.
Here, then, is the ranking of the best 25 albums of 1985 according to BBC Classical Music (here is the complete report). A ranking that you can compare with the similar ones of Ultimate Classic Rock and Paste.
