The Mastodon returned to perform after the sudden death of their former guitarist Brent Hinds, who was involved in an accident last Wednesday.
The band performed at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer, Alaska, where the loss of her co-founder commented from the stage: «Brent Hinds was our guitarist for 25 years. One of the most creative and best people we have ever met has left us tragically ».
Hinds had left the band last March after 25 years. If the group had announced the separation with honey words (“We are proud and immensely grateful for the music and the story that we made shared and we wish him only success and happiness”, Hinds had preferred other words: “I will not miss being in a shit band with horrible people”.
“We loved him a lot. We had our ups and downs, as it is normal that it is in a 25 -year -old relationship, it has not always been perfect, but we have always been as brothers, “continued the drummer Brann Dailor from the stage. «We have created a lot together, lots of beautiful music. And I think this will resist the test of time, as shown by your presence here tonight ».
“So we will continue to play the beautiful music that Brent helped us to create, which has allowed us to form this band and to travel together for the world, sleep together in a van, to get so much that they do not remember anything the next day, a thousand, millions of times, and then all the audience we played for, all the stages on which we went up.” Always come on: «I don't know. We are simply speechless. We are absolutely devastated and destroyed for having lost it and not being able to get it back. But you guys have allowed us to go on stage and do this concert tonight. So this is for Brent, ok? Thank you very much, guys ».
Dilor then always concluded by addressing the audience in the room: «Thanks for helping us to overcome this moment, it was really difficult for us. But you guys are fantastic, so thanks ».
