“What Neil Young do you prefer? The hippy dreamer? The intense rocker? The passionate experimenter of synthesizers? The godfather of the grunge? The controversy against the war?”. Starting from these dilemmas, the British magazine Mojo has updated and relaunched her ranking of the 50 best songs created by the Canadian Loner to date, chosen by a selection of artists, many of whom have played precisely on those songs. “Since it emerged for the first time as a member of the folk -rock Buffalo collective Springfield in 1966 – recalls the magazine in the introduction – Young has taken on each of these identities, sometimes more than an at the same time. But there is a constant: as soon as the world begins to metabolize its latest creation, he has already gone further … that it is the incandescent acute of an Les Paul or an acoustic guitar, A piano or his fragile voice and at the same time fair, Young has always created music that is born of his soul.- This is why his songs have resounded for decades not only among his fans, but also among other musicians who continue to admire his incessant creative research. gold race that it was thought to be concluded now “.

After celebrating the half century of “Harvest” (1972) and, last year, of “On the Beach” (with relative reprint), this year Neil Young is preparing to celebrate another important anniversary: the 50 years of “Tonight's the night”, one of his most suffered and loved albums. Meanwhile, the Canadian musician has published “Oceanside CountrySide”, one of his famous “Lost albums”. Recorded between May and December 1977, the disc precedes the release of “Comes a Time” of 1978 and has some affinities with the fourth cd of the box “Archives Vol III” released last year. The work will not be released on CD, but only on vinyl in the AOS (Analog Original Series) series, burned by Chris Bellman, distributed by Reprise Records. A light vinyl version will also be purchased.
The A side, “oceanside”, was recorded in Florida and Malibu with Young struggling with (almost) all the tools. “CountrySide”, facade B, instead contains songs recorded in Nashville with Ben Keith, Joe Osborn and some others.
The versions of “Lost in Space”, “Captain Kennedy” and “The Old Homesad” are those who ended up on “Hawks and Dues” in 1980, while “Sail Away”, “Goin 'Back”, “Human Hight”, “It Might Have Been” and “Unconhontas” are those of “Archives Vol Iii”. “Field of Opportunities” and “Dance Dance Dance” are slightly different from those of “Archives Vol III”, because there is no Nicolette Larson, but Young himself, who stressed that those of “Oceanside CountrySide” are the original mixs made immediately after the recordings.
Neil Young has recently announced that he will eliminate “Platinum” tickets from his next tours, following the example of Robert Smith, the care frontman. The coupons in question, sold by Ticketmaster, are premium seats with variable prices based on the question. According to Ticketmaster, the system helps to contrast the shells and guarantees artists a larger slice of the collections. But Robert Smith, during the “Shows of a Lost World” tour, rejected both the “Platinum” program and the Dynamic Pricing. The result? An average price of 68.54 dollars per ticket, 37% less than the average of the main tours of 2022, albeit in the face of the highest redemption of the career of the English band.
In an interview of 2024 at the Times of London, Smith defined the current ticket office practices “guided by greed”, affirming: “Dynamic Pricing is a scam that would disappear if all the artists refused it. But many hide behind the management saying they are not aware of it. Or lie or are stupid”. By collecting Smith's appeal, Neil Young has therefore decided to follow the same road.
On his Neil Young Archives website, the “Harvest” singer -songwriter explained: “My management and my agent have always tried to protect me and get the best conditions for me and for fans. Ticketmaster's Platinum tickets were designed to counter the tussle, but in the end the money went to me, and it did not seem right to me. Very soon, these tickets will no longer be available for my concerts.” Young has added that the responsibility will now move on to the public: “We must buy quickly when tickets are put on sale, otherwise in the secondary market the prices will go up”.
Tickets for his Love Earth World Tour 2025, which will mark his return to Europe, are already on sale. This means that the new policy will probably be applied to subsequent tours.
Recently, Neil Young shared the first trailer of the new documentary “Coastal”. The film, shot by his wife Daryl Hannah, is a personal documentary and behind the scenes, who follows Young during the dates of his 2023 tour, offering “a close and intimate look at the life of one of the most iconic songwriters and musicians in history”.

“With 'Coastal' I wanted to highlight the authenticity, opening and vulnerability of Neil as a person, musician and performer,” Hannah said in a press release. “He is pure and honest as few. He is deeply devoted to his artistic muse, which sometimes has made it difficult to capture the songs, given that we never knew what he would play or what tool he would have chosen. But what we managed to capture is magical, reveals truths, feelings and emotions in these hidden jewels, as well as a close portrait of an artist who sounds with the heart, without any artificiality”.
The documentary is flanked by the album “Coastal: The Soundtrack”, consisting of 11 tracks, which sees Young playing guitars, piano and harmonica. The album is available in vinyl, cd and digital format. Here is the tracklist And the cover of “Coastal: The Soundtrack”.

Neil Young and his new band, The Chrome Hearts, have also announced a world tour, as well as a place from headliner At the BST Presents Hyde Park this year. The Canadian singer -songwriter revealed that the tour will begin with a free concert in Ukraine, although the exact details have not yet been confirmed.
The news was shared through its Neil Young Archives website, with a direct message to the fans: “We are currently in negotiations and we will announce everything here on Neil Young Archives. Keep on Rockin 'in the Free World”.
If confirmed, the show would mark Young's first performance in Ukraine, a country to which the singer -songwriter has always expressed solidarity since the Russian invasion of 2022. The Canadian artist, known for his clear political positions, has repeatedly criticized Donald Trump and has made his music an activism tool.
The “Love Earth World Tour”, which will bring him back to Europe after six years, will start on June 18 from Rättvik, Sweden, and then ended on July 8 in Stuttgart, Germany. After the European Lege, Young will continue in the United States and Canada, with dates that will extend until September 15, when the tour will close at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
“Music unites!” Young wrote, presenting the new tour. “Old songs and new songs. Long jam! We will meet this summer. The Chrome Hearts and I are ready for you. Love and democracy reign in the USA and worldwide”.
