Funny Little Fears The review of the first solo album of Damian David.
Damian David He published his first and, who knows, the only solo album Funny Little Fears And he did it in a (numerically) chaotic moment for the world pop, all the more so if we talk about the market to which he decided to contact the American one.
We are immersed in a historical period where America churns out pop star, men and women, without stopping and this is not good if you call you Damiancame from years of international conquests with i Måneskin And decide, at the time of the consolidation of the band of the band, to become a pop soloist.
Choices of which, who knows, one day we will speak better.
Damiano David Funny Little Fear – Review: a promising but deceptive start
Having said that, the choice was taken and the path started, months ago, with Silverlines and the collaboration with one of the greatest and most iconic men of world music, Labrinth.
A powerful song, structured in a certain way and prelude to an album that seemed epic. Orchestras, deep bass, pads and sought -after sounds. Labrinth he had given us a Damian different from what, then, has become.
Immediately afterwards came Born With in Broken Heartthe first true single soloist as well as the most successful one so far, also thanks to a marketing campaign in America very massive.
The bulky comparison with Harry Styles
The first rumors begin, the first cracks and the doubt begins to insinuate itself in perspective album: “But Damiano is doing copies of the songs of Harry Stylestaking advantage of your initial solo path?“
Silverlines had the same structure as Sign of the Times, Born With in Broken Heart has that of As it was. In short, not the best as departure if you want to emphasize a career just started, the comparison is too big.
Going on here Next Summerwhose melodic line is at times equal, not only similar, to that of eVerybody's Changing of the Keane And we are on the third song out of three in which the productions do not stand out of originality.
Continue with Voices And also the same problem, we go to the ground of Lalala Of Naughty Boy with Sam Smith And we are 4 out of 4. At this point there have been no more doubts, the album would have been a kind of pseudo best of … of the most popular pop of the last 10/15 years.
We arrive at the exit of Funny Little Fears And we discover that there are 14 songs in total for a duration of almost 49 minutes which, excluding the four songs already mentioned, bring down the unpublished listening to just over half an hour.
The single: Zombie Lady
The single extract is Zombie Lady And, guess a little, here too we have a masterpiece of quotationism: Little Dreaming Of Cian ducrot.
In the latter case, however, we leave a margin of doubt because Ducrot published in March while Zombie Lady In mid -May, Ergo could deal with pure chance but the fact remains that the song is practically identical.
On all individuals you can find a consideration with songs published in the past (recent or distant) and it is an exercise, a game that we leave to readers. It is important, however, for the purposes of the review because it allows us to understand that this work is based on musical bases that everything are original.
We reiterate, because someone could misunderstand: The foundations, the productions are not original, do not Damiano. His timbre remains recognizable anything singing, without distorting himself, fortunately.
Technically it is made really well. The sounds come out wonderfully clean and there is a clear perception of the individual tools played that we rarely find in Italian Parisian projects.
Funny Little Fears, a record designed for foreign countries
As mentioned, it is a record that turns to the American market but that, as happened with the Måneskinassumes an international breath supported by great immediacy and ease.
Here you are, Funny Little Fears Play simple and without too many frills. We move continuously within popular territories that everyone can understand and metabolize from the first listening. It is a perfect disc to stay in a comfort zone made of simplicity and without even a minimum of claim of any kind.
Damiano David – texts between love and past
As for the texts, the general concept revolves around two macro areas: Where Cameron (the girlfriend) and the past with the band. Not always, of course, but very often we find ourselves listening to songs like Zombie Lady or Angel where love reigns undisputed.
On Zombie LadyThen, there is the gem of the appearance of Cameron herself at the end. She sings too, also pop star, so it was quite simple to be able to involve her but despite this they decided that her name should not appear publicly.
Labrinth, Where Cameron But not only … in the album there are other feat with Suki Waterhouse (Actress, model and companion of Robert Pattinson) and the young arrow astro D4VD.
The album is enjoyable, you listen to it willingly and hardly tired also thanks to more acoustic songs placed well during the tracklist, they serve to break the rhythm. The greatest flaw is that of originality, which we will see if in the long run it will have a weight in the decisions of the pop generalist public.
Certainly, publish a POP solo album after being and still being a rock singer does not help fans to metabolize at best but expects and hopes for satisfactory results.
