Award-winning actor Ted Danson will receive another honor: the Carol Burnett Award for Career Achievements at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards. The news about Danson, who's following in the footsteps of previous recipients Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy, and Ellen DeGeneres, was announced on Monday.
“Ted Danson has entertained audiences for decades with his iconic performances that will forever be ingrained in television history,” president of the Golden Globes Helen Hoehne, said in a statement.
“His renowned career is a testament to his remarkable talent and versatility as an actor and bears resemblance to the award's legendary namesake. It is an honor to present him with the 2025 Carol Burnett Award to celebrate the tremendous impact he has made and continues to make on television.”
The Carol Burnett Award was created in 2019, originally honoring the award's namesake. Danson is already a 13-time Golden Globe nominee and has won the award three times. In 1985, Danson won Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television for his role in Something About Ameliain 1990 and 1991 he earned the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series in the Musical or Comedy category for playing the iconic Sam Malone on Cheers.
The beloved sitcom ran for 11 seasons and won four Emmy awards for Best Comedy series. In total, Danson was nominated for 14 Emmy Awards, including for his roles in Cheers, Damagesand The Good Place. The actor's most recent project was Netflix's A Man on the Insidecreated by Mike Schur.
The Golden Globes, which will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, will air on Sunday, Jan. 5 on CBS and will simultaneously stream on Paramount+. The nominations will be announced on Dec. 9.
