Ten minutes on sessions Reality Awaitswhich came out today. It's called In Transit Part II and it is the mini-documentary shot by Johann Rashid, who also took care of the album's art, while the Strokes recorded the album in Costa Rica with Rick Rubin.
“Are you the person we're looking for?” asks Julian Casablancas, kneeling in front of the guru-producer. The tone is mostly relaxed (given the place…), often joking, between studio sessions, swimming in the pool, fragments of dialogue about the songs, football games and Rubin explaining what goes and doesn't go in the music they are recording.
“A few months ago I was in Costa Rica recording the new Strokes album,” Rubin said in October 2022 as a guest on Joe Rogan's podcast. «We rented a house on top of the mountain and set everything up outside so when they played it was as if they were giving a concert for the ocean from the top of a mountain. It was incredible. The band played like this, outdoors, every day. And they didn't want to leave. It was a crazy experience.”
In Transit was the title of the Strokes mini-doc from 2001, at the time of the first album Is This Itwhen they were considered the saviors of rock'n'roll, an idea they destroy in Reality Awaits (our review at this link).
