Netflix limited serious about infamous Miami drug lord also stars Karol G in her acting debut
Sofia Vergara transforms into notorious “Cocaine Godmother” Griselda Blanco in the first trailer for the upcoming Netflix limited series Griselda, which also features Karol G in her acting debut.
Already the subject of countless documentaries, the “queenpin” drug lord gets the Scarface treatment — right down to the Debbie Harry nod in the trailer’s song choice, a Spanish language version of Blondie’s “Call Me” — from Vergara and the team behind Narcos, with that series’ director Andrés Baiz helming all six episodes of Griselda.
The limited series is “inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. In the 1970s-80s Miami, Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as ‘the Godmother,’” Netflix said.
Carolina Giraldo, a.k.a. Colombian superstar Karol G, makes her on-screen debut in the series alongside a cast that includes Alberto Guerra, Christian Tappan, Martín Rodríguez, Juliana Aidén Martinez, and Vanessa Ferlito. Vergara also serves as executive producer on Vergara, which arrives on the streaming platform on January 25.
“There has never been a woman who came close to achieving the power, wealth, and respect that Griselda did. And no trafficker, woman or man, ever elicited the same level of fear,” co-creator Eric Newman told Tudum.
“Griselda is a rise-and-fall story like none we have ever seen before. It’s thrilling, emotional, funny, scary, and tragic. Griselda is an antihero of the highest order and a series of contradictions at odds with herself.”
