“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has spent 17 weeks on top of the chart, tying the record held by Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope”
Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” keeps making history! The radio smash has tied the record for longest No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart this decade after spending 27 total weeks on top of the chart.
“A Bar Song” has now tied the feat held by Gabby Barrett, whose song “I Hope” topped the chart in 2020. Since May, Shaboozey’s massive hit has been streamed 17.5 million times with 63.8 million airplay audience impressions, according to Luminate. Just last month, the song tied the record for most weeks atop the general Hot 100 chart after spending 19 weeks at Number One. (He shares the record with Lil Nas X.)
Both Barrett’s and Shaboozey’s songs land in third place for the longest-reigning songs on the Hot Country Songs Chart of all time. Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha’s “Meant to Be” dominated the chart for 50 weeks starting in Dec. 2017, and Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road” led the chart for 34 weeks earlier that year.
It’s not the first time Shaboozey has made history on the country chart. In late April, Shaboozey and Beyoncé became the first Black artists to top the chart consecutively. Bey had made history as the first Black woman to top the chart with Cowboy Carter‘s “Texas Hold’Em,” and then Shaboozey took the Number One spot the following week with “A Bar Song.”
The success of the massive track — and his collaborations with Bey on Cowboy Carter — also earned him a nod for Best New Artist at the Grammys this coming February. “A Bar Song” is also up for both Song of the Year and Best Country Solo Performance.
