Preceded by the singles nothingtodowithyou and Whirlwind Romance, canUrelate? is the debut EP of Minervareleased in collaboration with Dissonance and with Believe distribution.
“Baccarat Rouge“was born from a simple idea: music as light. An invisible energy that passes through bodies, suspends time and transforms what it touches. In the video, the darkness represents tension, loneliness and conflict, while the golden light becomes connection, love and liberation. Each scene is constructed as an emotional fragment, minimal and almost abstract, where Minerva become the center of this luminous storm. The objective of the video is not so much to tell a linear story, but to make us perceive a sensation: that of something that unites us deeply, without need of words.
The EP “canUrelate?“
The EP develops what Minerva have defined “prog pop”: a pop sound played and with influences borrowed from alternative rock, emo, indie and electronica, which seeks to escape structural repetitiveness typical of many classically pop songs, instead exploring more fluid structures, which change and evolve to tell a real story, even before simply constituting a song.
canUrelate? it is a story divided into five parts, five sections in which the states of mind narrated in the first person emerge, in a dialogue that is more of a monologue given the evident lack of an interlocutor. In each passage questions are asked, doubts of an indecisive and restless personality who seeks an explanation for his sentimental disappointments.
“It is a path that passes from doubt and anger through self-awareness, to lack and nostalgia: nostalgia for the idea of love, rather than for love itself”Minerva explain about the concept of the album. The EP ends with a question: “I'm fine… or not?”summarizing the state of mind that permeates each song.
MINERVA
Minerva is an alternative/indie rock band from Varese that mixes emo, electronic and pop in a style they define as “prog pop”. The songs, in English, combine catchy melodies with complex structures; the sound is characterized by light atmospheres, sophisticated arrangements and a singing that alternates delicate parts with hardcore-derived screams. The lyrics move between the analysis of relationships in the digital age, alienation, hyperconnection, fragmented love and a lucid introspection on insecurities and a sense of inadequacy. The result is a proposal that gives voice to an authentic generational discomfort, building a personal, layered and deeply emotional sound universe.
Influences include: Origami Angel, The 1975, Closure in Moscow, Nothing but Thieves; in live performances, the band is inspired by the structural openness of fusion with the incorporation of improvisational parts.
