Michael Stipe has shared a new solo song, “Hum Desiderata”, a further preview of the path that will lead to the release of his first album without REM. The song arrives a few months after “The Rest Of Ever”, presented last April during an appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”, an occasion on which Stipe also confirmed that he was working on his solo debut.
“Hum Desiderata” is currently available exclusively through Joyfully Waiting, a platform dedicated to sound exhibitions. The project sees Stipe joined by singer Elizabeth Hatmaker in the recitation of “Desiderata”, a famous poem written by Max Ehrmann in 1927. Their voices rest on “Hum”, an instrumental base composed by Stipe himself together with Andy LeMaster.

In recent months the ex-frontman of REM has stepped up his public appearances. In June he was a guest on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, where together with Andrew Watt he performed “I Played The Fool”, the theme from the series “Rooster”, for the first time. His recent participation in “The Simpsons” also obtained important recognition: the episode in which he was involved was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Animated Program category.
