Metallica also left their mark off stage during the Cardiff leg of their tour. Through the All Within My Hands charitable foundation, the band donated 20 thousand pounds (approximately 23,200 euros) to the Cardiff Foodbank, allowing the organization to distribute approximately 9,000 meals to people in economic difficulty. “At first we thought it was a joke,” the director of the Cardiff Foodbank, Rachel Biggs, told the BBC. “We received an email inviting us to contact the foundation because they wanted to donate £20,000 to us. It's a huge sum that will really make a difference and allow us to fill our shelves again.”
The help comes at a particularly delicate time for the food bank. Only two weeks ago the association launched a public appeal, explaining that supplies were almost exhausted due to the drop in donations. Each year Cardiff Foodbank assists around 20,000 people across eight city centers and a mobile service, with children making up around a third of beneficiaries. According to Biggs, calls for help remain high while food donations have fallen by 27%, making it increasingly difficult to sustain daily business.
This is the largest donation ever received by Cardiff Foodbank from a celebrity. Taylor Swift had also supported the organization in 2024 during her visit to the city, contributing to the purchase of groceries.
Founded in 2017, All Within My Hands donates part of its concert proceeds to solidarity projects around the world, with particular attention to the fight against food poverty. While in Wales, Metallica also worked with the Welsh Blood Transfusion Service to promote blood and plasma donation to fans. “It shows that those who have the opportunity to make a difference really choose to do so,” commented volunteer Eddie Cawston, a great fan of the band. The other volunteers defined Metallica's contribution as concrete help, which arrived at the moment of greatest difficulty for the organization.
