Lady Gaga, Jack White, Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, and other artists have been nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Class of 2027. As is tradition, the nominees are divided into two categories for performing and non-performing songwriters, with three artists selected from each to be inducted. Voting concludes on December 14, with the final honorees being announced early next year.
Shakira, P!nk, Sia, and ZZ Top’s Dusty Hill, Billy Gibbons, and the late Frank Beard are also part of the performing songwriters group. Rounding out that batch of nominees are America’s Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell, Boy George, Ne-Yo, Vince Gill, Grandmaster Melle Mel, and members of War.
Meanwhile, the non-performing songwriters category features Kandi Burruss, who wrote TLC’s “No Scrubs” and Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills”; Pete Bellotte, who penned Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff” and “I Feel Love”; Stargate, the production duo behind Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds”; Boy Meets Girl, who wrote Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “How Will I Know”; Dan Wilson, whose enduring hits include Semisonic’s “Closing Time” and Adele’s “Someone Like You”; Andreas Carlsson, who co-wrote Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way” and *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye”; and Stock Aitken Waterman, who the internet can thank for Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
At the start of 2026, the Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted Taylor Swift (who was inexplicably introduced by Steven Spielberg), Alanis Morissette, Kenny Logins, KISS’s Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Tricky Stewart, and more.
