Two years after “Something In The Room She Moves”, Julia Holter has announced the new album “Materia”, out on August 21st via Domino Recording Company. The album is presented as a complementary work to the previous one and anticipated by the single “Fantasy”, already available together with a video clip directed by Dicky Bahto. Speaking about the song, Holter said that it was the most complex piece of the entire project: “This song, which gives the impression of voluntary abandonment, was actually the most laborious on the album. It required over a year of work and numerous transformations. I love this contradiction.” The artist described “Fantasy” as a dancing and almost evocative piece, however crossed by a subtle tension: “Among the momentum of the daydream there is the line 'blink at the light and hope to survive', because even fantasizing can be disturbing in a fascist state. I was looking for the right rhythm, bright but not naive”.

“Materia” sees the return of the same lineup that accompanied Holter on the previous album: Elizabeth Goodfellow on drums, Devra Hoff on fretless bass, Maia on flute, Chris Speed on sax and clarinet, Tashi Wada on synthesizers and Kenny Gilmore in the roles of co-producer, sound engineer and mixing manager.

1. The Laugh is in The Eyes
2. My Lost One
3. Fantasy
4. Matter 2
