OLIVIA RODRIGO
After breaking all records with his debut album “SOUR,” topped the charts and certified 4x platinum (the fastest album in history to have all of its songs certified RIAA Platinum or higher) Olivia Rodrigo has made a monumental comeback with her second album “GUTS”, revealing a new sophistication as a singer and lyricist. Produced and co-written with Daniel Nigro (her primary creative partner on “SOUR”), each song intensifies the emotional honesty that has always permeated her work, leading the New York Times to hail her as “a singer-songwriter of quite astonishing purity.” .
Praised as an “Instant Classic” by Rolling Stone, “GUTS” debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200, coinciding with the single “vampire” which returned to first place on the Billboard Hot 100 and with Rodrigo's number 1 position on the Artist 100 thus giving her a triple presence on the chart. Rodrigo is the first female artist in nearly a decade to debut her first two albums atop the Billboard 200 and the youngest artist in Hot 100 history to debut with three No. 1 hits (“vampire” And “drivers license” And “good 4 u”). The remaining 11 tracks of “GUTS” entered the top 40 of the Hot 100. “GUTS” it topped the album charts in over 13 countries, including the UK.
The album, which appeared on more than 30 lists of the best records of 2023, including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR and Pitchfork, received GRAMMY® nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album while “vampire” received three nominations and “ballad of a homeschooled girl” was nominated for best rock song. Before the end of the year, Rodrigo reached another career milestone with the release of his first song on a film soundtrack: “Can't Catch Me Now” from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (Music From & Inspired By). The song, nominated for a 2025 Grammy Award for the Best Song Written for a Visual Media, won a 2023 Hollywood Music In Media Award for SciFi/Fantasy Film, a 2024 SCL Award for “Outstanding Original Song For A Dramatic or Documentary Visual Media Production” and was shortlisted for the 2024 Oscars.
Shortly after the launch of the GUTS tour, Olivia released “GUTS (spilted)” – the deluxe edition of his second album, which contains five additional songs including “obsessed”, a highlight from his live show and a brand new song “I know American”, recorded after the release of GUTS.
Rodrigo's accomplished 2024 GUTS World Tour, which included 95 sold-out shows, “cemented her position in pop culture as a generation-defining artist,” Rolling Stone said, and Variety noted: “It's a rockin' show 'n' roll, by the way – maybe the best rock tour we'll have this year…”.
The “Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour” Concert Special is now streaming on Netflix.
