Spokesperson for the disgraced media mogul confirmed that Weinstein had been diagnosed with leukemia
Harvey Weinstein is back in the hospital after receiving an “alarming blood test result.” On Monday, Weinstein's attorney confirmed that the disgraced mogul was receiving “emergent treatment” after it was determined that he needed “immediate” help.
“Harvey Weinstein, who has been suffering from a lack of adequate medical care and enduring deplorable and inhumane conditions on Rikers Island, has been transported to Bellevue Hospital for emergency treatment due to an alarming blood test result that requires immediate medical attention,” read the statement from his attorney, Imran H. Ansari.
“It is expected that he will remain there until his condition stabilizes. His deprivation of care is not only medical malpractice, but a violation of his constitutional rights,” Ansari added.
The news comes over a month after sources told ABC News that he had been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. (His spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, confirmed the leukemia report to The Hollywood Reporter.)
“Mr. Weinstein, who is suffering from a number of illnesses, including leukemia, has been deprived the medical attention that someone in his medical state deserves, prisoner or not,” Engelmayer said. “In many ways, this mistreatment constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.”
Back in September, Weinstein was moved to a hospital for an emergency heart surgery. He was also hospitalized in July after testing positive for Covid-19 and double pneumonia. In September, he was indicted on a further sexual assault charge in New York and accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Manhattan hotel room in 2006. He pleaded not guilty. The official charge is one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree.
