One of the most surprising moments of Bad Bunny's world tour took place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, where the Puerto Rican rapper welcomed Damon Albarn on stage for a special version of “Clint Eastwood”. Sitting at the piano, the leader of Gorillaz accompanied the author of “Debí tirar más fotos” in what he himself defined as “my favorite song of all time”, transforming a simple cameo into one of the most significant episodes of the tour.
The performance went beyond surprise value. Bad Bunny, today among the most influential artists in the world despite continuing to sing almost exclusively in Spanish, does not need a collaboration with a Britpop legend to legitimize his success. Instead, it was he who invited Albarn on stage, paying homage to one of the songs that most marked his musical education, before also performing “Tormenta” together, the collaboration published by Gorillaz in 2023.
The most interesting aspect of the performance, however, came with an unreleased verse added by Bad Bunny to “Clint Eastwood”: “My life is not a film, it is a documentary because it is real. Thanks to those who helped my music spread in 2014. Now there is no one left who can stop it.” Words that acquire a particular meaning next to Albarn, founder of the virtual band par excellence. Gorillaz were in fact born at the beginning of the 2000s as a multimedia project designed to question the artificiality of pop culture, while Bad Bunny contrasts that universe with the concreteness of his own path, claiming the rise that took him from the first songs uploaded on SoundCloud, when he was still working in a supermarket, to the top of world music.

The reference to 2014 is also not accidental. If in 2001 “Clint Eastwood” helped redefine the boundaries between alternative rock and hip-hop, in 2014 Bad Bunny began to build his own artistic identity by mixing trap, reggaeton and pop sensibilities. Two different paths but united by the ability to escape labels and change the rules of the market. The London duet thus takes on the value of a symbolic passing of the baton between two artists who, in different eras, have been able to redefine the language of contemporary pop music.
