Dave Arbus, a multi -instrumentalist founder of the progressive East of Eden pioneers died on March 21, 2025 at the age of 84, after a long illness. For many, his name will remain linked to the famous violin solo that closes “Baba O'Riley” of the Who. The British band wanted to greet him with a message published on his official Facebook page: «We are sad in learning about the death of Dave Arbus of the East of Eden. It was Keith Moon who invited him to play the unmistakable violin solo in the tail of 'Baba O'Riley'. Rest in peace, Dave Arbus. 1941–2025 ».
The official East of Eden website also confirmed the disappearance. The guitarist Geoffrey Nicholson, starts in turn of the original formation, recalled him on Facebook as “a great multi -instrumentalist: although known above all for the violin, Dave also played flute, saxophone and trumpet. He knew how to play two sax at the same time, in the manner of Roland Kirk ».
And Newsom, former Roadie of East of Eden, shared a personal message to remember Arbus in his multiple guise of “artist, wood craftsman and English teacher”. He said he met him in 1968 and to remember “always with a smile as he played the violin”. He also reported a joke of the singer to Read, who joked about being “the voice of a band whose only success was an instrumental”. The reference is to “Jig-a-jig”, a single that in 1970 came to seventh place in the British rankings.
