Available from June 10th on all digital platforms “Pareidolia – Real Illusions in the Goals of Time”, new concept EP by the Calabrian artist Dasp. The concept is the pareidoliathe subconscious illusion that leads one to recognize familiar shapes, especially faces or human figures, in random natural and artificial objects or profiles. The goal is to make the listener find an emotional familiarity in each song. Musical influences range from singer-songwriter toelectronics passing through theindie rock and the grunge.
“Pareidolia wants to lead the listener to recognize something familiar and intimate in each song. The musical style of the project is a songwriting contaminated by the experimental (in the vinyl version), by indie rock, by the acoustic guitar played in front of a bonfire, by electronics and by the dirty distortions of a Big Muff.” – Dasp.
The musical influences that have characterized the artist's identity are evident and can be heard in some songs on the EP: in “Istinti” there are grunge and synth sounds in “Kasabian” style, in “Generation Y” la distortion and the kill switch recalls The Black Keys and Jack White, In “Modern Times” there is a mix of indie rock and nineties electronicawith “L'Uomo Poltrona” and “Pareidolia” we find a healthy Italian songwriting of denunciation and meditation.
Even the cover created by the French artist Cécilia Leroux (Cécilia in the Jungle) is inspired by the concept of “pareidolia”: some will see screaming crowds, some young people in concert, some the collapsed bridge and animals in the composition. At the center, a heart beats: rooted in its nature, but wounded by the deafening thoughts of society.
WHO IS DASP?
“Hi, I'm Domenico aka Dasp, I was born and live in the isolated Sila mountains, in a hidden corner of the world but full of history. I'm surrounded by a unique and rare naturalistic beauty that inspires all of my projects.
Musician, Sound Designer, beekeeper and tireless creative, I spend my time searching for new ideas in the sounds of the woods and bees.
Romantic, patient and always available, I love transforming curiosity and natural silences into music and authentic connections.”
Dasp is the acronym of Domenico Palopoli, multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter and sound designer. In the past he was the guitarist of several bands who had the opportunity to play as opening act for artists of the caliber of Giusy Ferreri.
His style is a mix of Italian songwriting with electronic influences, electropop, psychedelic rock and indie rock.
In his live shows the singer-songwriter performs both acoustically and with a loop station for the beat box where with his voice, guitar, synth and drum machine he always tries to create a dimension with a unique and distinguishable sound.
The lyrics tell stories that reflect social themes and exploration of the self with a mood that oscillates between the cheerful and the melancholy between past, present and future.
The Dasp project has obtained visibility several times in specialized newspapers and on Rai TV channels both for the use of an instrumental “intro” as a soundtrack in an episode of “Nemo” and for the presentation of its singles.
The singer-songwriter also participated in an instrumental music seminar with maestro Paolo Vivaldi in which he created a track for an audiovisual project and was a finalist for the Arezzo Wave several times.
On 10 June 2026 the concept EP “Pareidolia – Illusioni Reali nelle Mete del tempo” was released, preceded by two singles.
