In recent months Bob Dylan has been unusually active on Twitter and has finally also talked about the upcoming biopic about his youth starring Timothée Chalamet.
«There's a movie about me coming out soon, called A Complete Unknown (what a title!),” he wrote Wednesday afternoon. «Timothée Chalamet is the protagonist. Timmy is a brilliant actor, so I'm sure he will be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or another me. The film is based on Dylan Goes Electric by Elijah Wald, a book that came out in 2015. It's a fantastic retelling of the events of the early 1960s that led to the Newport fiasco. After seeing the film, read the book.”
It is the first time that Dylan has publicly commented on the film which also stars Edward Norton, Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro. He was involved from the beginning and was announced as executive producer.
In the recent cover article on Rolling Stone US with Chalamet, the actor revealed that Dylan met the director of A Complete UnknownJames Mangold, and went through every line in the script. “Jim has an annotated script of Bob somewhere,” Chalamet said. «I'll ask him to get his hands on it. He will never give it to me.”
“I got the feeling Bob just wanted to know what I was doing,” Mangold said.
As Dylan wrote, the screenplay of A Complete Unknown was initially built around Elijah Wald's 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties. But it was eventually expanded to begin with Dylan's arrival in New York during the winter of 1961 and extend to the summer of 1965, when he played with a band for the first time at the Newport Folk Festival.
It's unclear whether Dylan will attend the official premiere or promote the film in any way. Keep an eye on his social media. Meanwhile, Chalamet thanks:
Floored.
I am so grateful.
