Damiano David talks to Vogue about the success of his world tour, his solo debut and his (old) obsession with fame.
2025 marks a new chapter in the career of Damiano Davidfrontman of Måneskinnow struggling with launching his solo career. After global success with the band, Damian is preparing to present his first album, an ambitious project that reflects a more intimate and personal artistic journey, anticipated by the singles Silverlines And Born With a Broken Heart.
Damiano Davide, the new life in Los Angeles
The move to Los Angeles represented for Damian a true artistic rebirth, but not without difficulties. In an interview given to Vogue Italiathe singer described the experience as one “culture shock”, underlining the contrast between the liveliness of Rome and the solitude of Los Angeles.
“There are no squares or bars with outside seating, nor meeting places,” he explained. “But that city gave me the chance to be whoever I wanted, to start from scratch and build an environment that was truly mine.”
There he had the opportunity to collaborate with big names in music such as Bruce Springsteen, Good Jovi And Mick Jaggerexploring new sounds far from the rock that characterized i Måneskin. The result is an album that combines pop and singer-songwriter influences, with a strong introspection. All elements which, together with the sound, have brought many references to the global icon Harry Styles.
The challenge of fame and the trap of success
Among the topics addressed by Damian the interview also features his complex relationship with fame. “Three years ago I was obsessed with success,” he confessed, reflecting on the weight of notoriety. “I believe that the secret in this work is consistency. I know who I am as an artist, and if this album flops, it won't be a verdict on my talent – it will just mean it was the wrong time. I'm going to make another album, because I know I'm capable of doing it.”
The singer said he fears the “pitfalls” of success, particularly the tendency towards mass production and loss of authenticity: “I learned that you have to be true to yourself, even when everything around you seems to want to change you.”
