On Friday, the Winter Olympics, hosted in Milan and Cortina, Italy, will return. The cold-weather competitions occur every four years, but 2026 marks the first time in eight years since the Winter Olympics have had in-person spectators. (The last time was the 2018 competitions in Pyeongchang, South Korea, as Covid-19 countermeasures and restrictions were in full force at the 2022 festivities in Beijing, China.) As an international competition that involves some of the world’s best athletes and most obscure sports, the Olympics brings a specific allure. Athletes train their entire lives for these games; but no matter how much they…

Under the Superdome lights in New Orleans, I'm living out a dream 40 years in the making. As a kid, aloft on my father's shoulders, I saw Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band when they were the biggest band in the universe. Now, I'm the one playing guitar in a stadium for the first time with full production — thousands of people, cameras, lights — ready to hit the opening chord of “Born to Run.” Then, my D string snaps. My spare set is at the hotel. There's no time for a fix. The click track in my headphones counts…

Josh Homme and Norah Jones have joined forces to share a cover of Frank and Nancy Sinatra‘s classic track ‘Somethin’ Stupid’. The two came together to record the song live during taping of the Norah Jones Is Playing Along podcast, which will be available to listen to in full on Tuesday (February 10). In the cover, the two take on a more jazz-inspired sound than both the original and 2001 cover from Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman. Homme opens with a blues-tinged riff on the acoustic guitar, before Jones leads the way with a sultry piano melody. The stripped-back keys…
Very few actors can play ice-cold and white-hot in the exact same moment, within a single glance, whether in close-up or long shot. Alain Delon was a master of it; so is Alexander Skarsgård. And yet the legendary star of 1967’s Le Samurai never wrestled someone in an ass-less singlet as a form of foreplay — to the best of our knowledge, at least; we haven’t seen all of Deloin’s early French films — which may give Skarsgård the edge in terms of subzero-sex-symbol status. Maybe you’ve heard that the tall, pale, and handsome performer who graces writer-director Harry Lighton’s…

Photo by Luca Moschini Sick Drum return to the stageHiroshima Mon Amour to present live “Dementia”the eighth chapter of a discography that continues to courageously delve into the folds of the human soul. Released January 16, 2026 for The Disc Stormthis new work does not try to tame discomfort, but chooses to cross it head-on, transforming it into living and pulsating matter. The album moves on a terrain of strong contrasts, reflecting the confusion of those thoughts that lose their boundaries. Between sudden shocks and short pauses of apparent calm, the ten tracks of “Dementia” compose an emotional flow made…
What have you and your kids connected over?Playboi Carti. That first happened probably around the time the self-titled dropped. It was at the time when all the old heads were calling him and Yachty mumble rap, but my son was running “Magnolia” into the ground. I started absorbing it by osmosis. What did you like about it?I had to listen to it differently. Carti isn’t motherfuckin’ Inspectah Deck. Give me the baby noises. Make shit that slaps. Use your voice as an instrument.Even going back to your time as a music critic at Vice reviewing everything from Crystal Castles to Paramore,…
