Come back Alex Polydorssinger-songwriter but above all a very successful voice actor. To be clear, he is the voice of Spider-Manof the protagonist of Atypicaland many other characters from TV series and films. As a child, he gave his voice to the little fish Nemo. His new single, Let's Surf the Wavebrings with it a profound reflection by the artist on the way of proposing music today.
The latest singles from Alex, Candies for the voice (February) and Gianfranco (March), they did not achieve the success they had hoped for in the era of video on TikTok and the fight to conquer a place in the playlists. Now the singer-songwriter is preparing to launch a new song with very clear assumptions, which he wanted to explain in a post on social media:
“I decided to start over with music with a new approach. I am really tired and saturated with today's mechanisms in the music field.
The fact that, if I want to release a song and hope it gets a bit of traction, I have to do a ton of content, collaborations and 500 other things that have nothing to do with music, makes me anxious. It bothers me.
I want to publish what I feel, what I experience, sharing with others but without pressure, without thinking about numbers, without necessarily having the ambition to go on playlists that are composed with the sole criterion of homologation, without wanting to become viral on tik tok.
I'll make the content I want to make, if I enjoy making it. I know that these absurd mechanisms of today are an integral part of the singer's profession.“.
A reflection similar to the one that more and more artists, including many launched by talent shows, are sharing in recent months.
Alex Polidori explains how he too, in the past, adapted to this mechanism that now seems indispensable for promoting one's music…
“By now, and I don't want to belittle those who rightly adapt to all this. I do it and I did it too. I repeat, I have nothing against those who follow this wave and try to ride the social medium as best they can to get ratings. But breaking away from this is something I feel like doing.
I want to make music following MY wave, surfing it with my board made of feelings, curiosity and artistic purity. I want to sing what I feel, when I feel it and how I feel it, without cataloging myself in the cauldrons of musical genres already saturated due to the rush to editorial playlists, without having to have a funny idea to tie to a part of the text to make memes, without being an unconscious slave to this system that, disguising itself as an opportunity, has given opportunities, has given life to a string of unspeakable rubbish that is becoming the norm for our ears.
Obviously I am not generalizing and there are many valid and interesting projects, which reach great goals deserving it without a shadow of a doubt. But they are few. I start from myself and from the need to express myself, nothing else. If someone wants to ride the wave with me, they will always be welcome and we will have a lot of fun“.
Let's Surf the Wave It was produced by Template and is available on digital platforms from Tuesday 27 August.
