These days, smartwatches primarily fall into one of two buckets: lifestyle or fitness. Lifestyle or daily watches, led by the Apple Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch9, function best as an extension of your phone for tasks like messaging, reminders, and everyday health monitoring. Fitness watches, led by Garmin’s lineup, offer deeper fitness analytics, much longer battery life, and things like offline mapping.
That means most buyers need to make a decision between an everyday lifestyle smartwatch and a dedicated fitness smartwatch. However, Samsung may have bridged the gap with its new Galaxy Watch Ultra2.

Released in August, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 introduced some significant upgrades for Samsung’s top-of-the-line smartwatch. The first thing you’ll notice is the construction, which is lighter but more rugged thanks to aerospace-grade titanium and sapphire crystal. The upgraded AMOLED screen is also incredibly bright, peaking at 5,000 nits (Garmin and Apple watches both top out at 3,000 nits, for reference). This means you’ll get exceptional visibility, even in direct, bright sunlight.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 also gets a significant battery upgrade over its predecessor, up from 590 mAh to 800 mAh. This allows the watch to stay charged for up to four days at a time, which is great for traveling or rugged adventures.
The new Samsung watch also introduces some great new features. Many of these are geared toward outdoor adventures, from trail running to diving. It boasts an EN13319-certification and a built-in dive computer from Mares (a leader in the space) that provides extensive underwater data. Health monitoring through all of your activities has also been improved with things like a comprehensive heart score, accurate stress level reports, and sleep apnea detection.
In short, if you’re looking for one smartwatch that can just about do it all, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is your best bet. Shop it now at Samsung.com here.
