Dylan has shared her new single ‘To Love & To Lose’ after a public battle with her record label.
The track, which you can listen to below, is the first to be taken from her forthcoming debut album.
“This song, for me, is not about heartbreak or rage, but something quieter and more unsettling. It’s the inability to feel anything real having been through pain, grief and loss,” she said via a pres release.
“Quite literally, it is the idea of trying to be with someone else whilst believing I am to blame for why I cannot feel the way I once did. I wrote it at 2am in a cab home from a party when I couldn’t find a song quick enough that matched the emotion I needed to heighten. It has soundtracked every cab home since.”
It comes after the singer took to Instagram last week in a teary post to share the news that it wouldn’t be coming out due her label having “no budget”.
She wrote: “My heart is in agony. I have fought with everything I have to get to this point. And I have come too far to give up now. I will keep you updated, my whole team are and I are making our mission to get it out. I am so sorry to let you down again. it’s completely out of my control.”
It led to the likes of RAYE and Natalie Imbruglia offering their support with the former saying: “I wanted to tell you I am so sorry. But I want to encourage you not to give up. Where there is a will there is a way. Stay strong and hang onto those dreams of yours. When we hit rock bottom the only way is up.”
After lobbying her label, Dylan shared a follow-up post thanking her fans and that her single would now be released.
She wrote: “YOU sent the most powerful message that broke down the walls I couldn’t get through alone. I am completely in debt to you and your love and support. I am not the first artist to have to go through this shite and I sadly won’t be the last. The music industry is a tough thing to navigate, but art will always prevail. It brings people together, and it tears down boundaries.”
“Emotionally I am all over the place, but physically I am stronger than ever. I will not back down. The release will go ahead.”
Dylan broke into the top 20 of the UK album chart with her debut mixtape ‘The Greatest Thing I’ll Never Learn’ in 2022 and previously supported Ed Sheeran on tour.
“I want to headline Wembley [Stadium] one day,” she told NME at the time. “I did it with Ed and that has really given me the hunger.”
