2026 marks a fundamental double anniversary in the career of Vinicio Capossela. The singer-songwriter is in fact celebrating thirty years of “Il Ballo di San Vito”, published on 10 October 1996, and twenty years of “Ovunque Proteggi”, released on 20 January 2006, two albums that represent key moments in his artistic journey. For the occasion, two celebratory limited edition vinyl reissues and four special concerts dedicated to the two albums arrive.
The reprints will be available in just 1,000 numbered copies each and will faithfully reproduce the original graphics. “Il Ballo di San Vito” will return in an edition on red vinyl, while “Ovunque Proteggi” will be released on cream white vinyl, a color chosen to recall the shades of the original cover.
Pre-orders open on Wednesday 15 July, while the official release is set for Friday 24 July.
Even live, Capossela will pay homage to the two albums with four exclusive events.
The twenty years of “Ovunque Proteggi”, an album that marked an artistic turning point inspired by the landscapes of Barbagia, the rites of Sicily, trips to Russia and a profound reflection on the sacred and myth, will be celebrated in two evocative archaeological sites: on 13 July at the Amphitheater of the Pompeii Excavations and on 16 July at the Temple of Hera in the Archaeological Park of Selinunte. The cultural and geographical value of the album was also recently told in Giovanni Ansaldo's volume “La strada di Vinicio Capossela. A journey in the footsteps of Ovunque Proteggi”, published by Nottetempo in 2026.
Then there is space for the thirty years of “Il Ballo di San Vito”, the album which in 1996 marked a decisive turning point in Capossela's poetics, abandoning the atmospheres closest to the first Tom Waits to immerse himself in the sounds of Salento pizzica, in rural blues and in the guitars of Marc Ribot. The anniversary will be celebrated with two summer concerts: on 2 August in Monforte d'Alba, as part of MonfortinJazz, and on 12 August at the Locus Festival in Locorotondo.
