THE Rolling Stones they still look to the future. He confirms it Ronnie Wood in an interview with Eleonora Bagarotti, journalist of the newspaper Freedomon the occasion of his concert at Lucca Summer Festival. The guitarist spoke about the new album Foreign Tonguesof the fun relationship with Keith Richards and of the band's projects, also launching news destined to make fans happy: the Stones aim to return to tour in 2027.
The enthusiasm with which Mick Jagger, Keith Richards And Ronnie Wood presented the new album, between events in New York and London, tells of a band that doesn't want to stop, despite an average age of around 81 years. An enthusiasm which, in Wood's words, also emerges from the work carried out in the studio together with the producer Andy Watts. “I'm very satisfied with Foreign Tongues, and we all are“, says the guitarist. “I think this album is a concentration of the world of the Rolling Stones: blues, rock, big ballads and country. Rough and Twisted is a tribute to our musical references, such as Muddy Waters and Elmore James, while the cover of You Know I'm No Good wants to be a tribute to Amy Winehouse, remaining faithful to the original“.
Wood also describes the creative climate that accompanied the recording of the album, underlining the role of Andy Watt and the special relationship with Keith Richards. Among the funniest episodes told to Libertà, there is a joke from his longtime companion: “Keith said to me: You can put icing and cherries on it, but I'm the cake“. An irony which, according to Wood, has always accompanied his historic companion.”Sometimes I think Keith is Monty Python with a guitar“, he jokes.
Retracing a career spanning over sixty years, Wood proudly claims his role in rock history. “I think I can easily join the 'fathers of rock' club. Fearless, my collection that traces sixty years of music, also tells this story“.
But the most awaited step concerns the future of the band. When asked about a possible new Rolling Stones tour, Wood responds without hesitation. “Yes, absolutely. We had a blast at the album launch party in London. We're fine, we're healthy, we love our audience and these new songs. We can't wait for 2027“. Words that fuel the expectations of fans all over the world. After the release of Foreign Tongues, the Rolling Stones therefore seem ready to write another chapter in their history, proving once again that time is just a detail. At least for them.
