The official UK album charts are 70 years old. For the occasion, the Top 70 of all time was released by the Official UK Chart for the first time, i.e. the ranking of the best-selling and most listened to albums which takes into account both physical copies and streaming.
The biggest unreleased album ever in the UK, by these metrics, it is (What's The Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis, which sold 6.2 million copies in the UK charts. Better they only do the very classic Greatest Hits by Queen which is in first place with 7.8 million and Abba Gold vhe is in second with 7.1 million.
Behind Oasis, who are therefore third, are in that order 21 by Adele (5.7 million) and Sgt. Pepper's by the Beatles (5.6 million). Behind them in order The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd (which never reached number one in the UK, it stopped at number two), Rumors by Fleetwood Mac, Thriller by Michael Jackson, the compilation Legend by Bob Marley and Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits which closes the Top 10.
Among the top 70 there is an Oasis disco album, Definitely Maybe at number 39. The Joshua Tree by U2 is “only” at number 37, Nevermind by Nirvana at number 41. Almost every album in the Top 70 reached number one on the charts. Among the exceptions, Bat Out of Hell by Meat Loaf, 19th in this special ranking, but number 9 at the time.
Here is the complete ranking with the indication of the progressive position, the title, the name of the artist, the year of publication and the maximum position reached.
