When U2 opened the Sphere in Las Vegas in 2023, Lars Ulrich was also in the audience. Today, as Metallica prepares to debut in the venue with the residency Life Burns Fasterthe drummer talked about how much that evening affected him. Guest of Close To The Edgand on SiriusXM, Ulrich recalled the impact of the Irish band's show: «I was there on opening night and I was fucking breathless, inspired, full of energy. I said to myself: holy shit, this is somehow another frontier.”
Addressing The Edge, he then added: «Obviously you were the first ones in there and it was truly incredible to witness that evening. So, in that same spirit, three years later, when we start in a few months, we're really excited.”
The residency Life Burns Fasterwhose title takes a line from Master of Puppetswill launch in the fall of 2026. Initially announced with eight concerts, it was expanded to 24 dates after high fan demand.
Ulrich finally admitted that he faces the challenge with respect: «It will be challenging. It's overwhelming and fucking intimidating. But I hope that when we go on stage on the first night we will have put it all together.”
