Gianna Nannini returns with a new version of “America”, one of the symbolic songs of her career. The single, created together with Marracash, will be available from Friday 3 July on the radio and on all digital platforms for Emi/Universal Music Italia.
Produced by Nannini herself together with Dardust, the new “America” reinterprets the 1979 classic through a dialogue between rock and rap. Alongside the singer is Marracash, protagonist of a featuring which updates the meaning of the song, born over forty years ago but still capable of telling the present.
The cover has also been revisited. The original image, which depicted the Statue of Liberty with a vibrator instead of a torch, leaves room for a new version in which the statue appears melted, a metaphor for a now dissolved American dream.
“I gave America a refresh – declares Gianna Nannini – I sang it again and hosted Marra, the dream and the stars and stripes vibrator melted away, now it's America inc.”.

For Marracash, the collaboration had a special meaning: “The meeting with Gianna was mythological and so was being contacted by her precisely to collaborate on this song. “America” is an iconic piece, and in this refreshed version it becomes current, representing a dream that melted before our eyes. Gianna is the icon of rock, of feminism, and what really unites us is authenticity: we are two great screamers but above all two outspoken people. Even rock and rap have something in common: they don't try to please you or sugarcoat you, they tell it like it is.”
The release of the single inaugurates “Giannagold”, the project with which the Sienese artist will celebrate the 50th anniversary of his debut album through two years of publications and concerts. A new limited edition of “California” will also arrive on July 10th, the historic 1979 album that marked the singer-songwriter's rock turning point and which, thanks to “America”, opened the doors of success to her also in Germany and Northern Europe.
The celebrations will culminate on September 19th with the live debut of “Giannagold – The 50 Years Album Celebration” at the Waldbühne in Berlin, a historic arena that over the years has hosted concerts by artists such as the Rolling Stones, Rammsteinhttps://www.ondarock.it/monografie/depechemode/ and Depeche Mode.
