Winner of 17 Grammy AwardsSting proposed an exclusive concert in Gallery of Honor of the museum, surrounded by authentic masterpieces. Playing a rare 17th century guitar, the artist recounted his deep love for the old masters and celebrated the power of books and reading, also performing in the spectacular library of the Rijksmuseum.
In conjunction with the international tour of the musical The Last Shipperforming in Amsterdam, Paris, Brisbane and New York, this special performance included songs from the nominated musical Tony Awardsa deeply personal tribute to the region of North East England where Sting was born and to the long-gone shipbuilding tradition of his hometown, Wallsend. Accompanied by his historic guitarist Dominic MillerSting retraced the origins of the musical, shared anecdotes from his long career and performed some of the most beloved songs from his extraordinary repertoire, including the great classics of The Police.
During Sting's stay in Amsterdam, ART immortalized this extraordinary performance at the Rijksmuseum, creating a splendid live concert film which debuted on ARTE's VOD platform on March 5to then be broadcast on the broadcaster's channels in Germany and France March 27.
The performance is now published in format CD, VINYL and DIGITAL with the title Sting – The Night Watch: Live at the Rijksmuseum.
