From Friday 19 June it will be on the radio and on all digital platforms Romantic Southernersthe new single from the Sicilian singer-songwriter Saitta. Romantic Southerners comes from the phrases that thousands of kids from Southern Italy have heard repeating since they were children: “find a real job”, “you can't eat with music”, “learn a trade”. Words that often become the wall against which the dreams of those who decide to believe in their passions hit, and to which the song tries to respond.
Romantic Southerners: a dedication to those who leave and those who remain
The piece, published on the label Digital Noises and distributed by ADA Music Italy (Warner Music Group), talks about the condition of those who grow up in Southern Italy chasing a dream, often forced to deal with prejudices and social expectations. A story that starts from Sicily but becomes universal.
There are fathers who work to the point of exhaustion to guarantee a future for their children, mothers who wait awake for their return, young people who leave their homeland in search of opportunities and who, once they leave, are also mocked for the nostalgia they continue to feel. A nostalgia that is a fault only in the eyes of those who have never experienced it.
With Romantic Southerners, Saitta gives voice to a generation that does not want to give up its ideals and responds, song after song, to those who continue to invite them to “put their feet on the ground”. It is a dedication to those who choose the heart, the passion and the freedom to pursue what they love, even when everyone around them advises the opposite.
The South as a home to bring inside
The single is a hymn to the dignity of dreams and the strength of one's origins. A feeling which, in the words of the piece, makes the South a home from which you can leave but which you never stop bringing inside. It is in this tension between departure and belonging that Romantic Southerners finds its image more recognizable, and that makes it a song that anyone who's ever left something behind to look for something else can relate to.
From the Taormina Film Festival to the new single
The release of Romantic Southerners arrives a few days after the participation of Saitta al Taormina Film Festivalwhere he took part in the short film Shoulder to Sword directed by Louis Nabil Djalili. The work won the award as Best Short Filmconfirming the versatility of a path that moves between music and cinema.
