“This sound” is a song that highlights a submerged part of consciousness, made up of beliefs, judgments and actions that are carried out without thinking, like a “background noise” that goes unnoticed until it is discovered. The “normal sound” speaks with millions of voices that seem like one and tells beautiful and terrible things with an assertive tone. It is a sort of automatic pilot that precedes all reasoning, simplifies choices but imposes its own truths. At first light and enveloping, then hard and liberating, the progress of the song accompanies the emergence of an awareness: one is never truly autonomous in one's judgments and the road to freedom passes through the search for examples, new points of view and alternative ways of living to one's own. The sound evokes atmospheres close to midwest emo and alternative rock, but the care of the sounds places the song in a hybrid and new territory. In the first part, the arrangement recalls the cyclical and restless rhythm of the water during the change of tide, in the second a decisive sound takes over and cathartic, similar to a now inevitable storm.
The group explains about the song: «”This sound” was born while we were composing the music for a theater show for which we had been commissioned to write the soundtrack. While we were writing we immediately realized that, in reality, we had created the perfect song not to close the show, but our album. “This sound” is the most mature outcome of three years of rehearsals together. Even though it's the first one to come out, it's the last piece we composed while writing the first record. For this reason, it is the point of connection with the direction we took later, when we started working on the second one. The song with which we present ourselves to the world represents a point of arrival, what we have been so far, but at the same time it is a prelude to something new, the second album, which will not be released before 2027. A strange way of debuting in the musical panorama. Even though we would like to simply enjoy the satisfaction of releasing our first song, we are already looking forward, and we couldn't do otherwise.”
The video clip for “This sound”, written and directed by Riccardo Baiocco, describes the internal conflict generated by that “background noise” which often guides thoughts and actions without us realizing it. A flow of free or low-cost images initially seems under the protagonist's control, but it soon turns out to be a trap capable of trapping him in a conflict that doesn't really belong to him. As in a labyrinth with no way out, Ariadne's thread appears lost. To find it again it will be necessary to look at the stars again and look for new reference points.
EVERYTHING
everything is silent it is the meeting of Massimo Rusi (singer and guitarist), Riccardo Quell de Riso Paparo (drummer and percussionist), Federico Bentivoglio (bassist and backing vocalist) e Andrea El Khaloufi (guitarist and backing vocalist). The project has its roots in 2019, with the meeting between Riccardo and Massimo, then philosophy students. The entry of Federico and Andrea, who also met in the faculty, definitively transforms the garage where Massimo and Riccardo “played” music into the rehearsal room of a group that improvises and composes. Song after song, tuttotace takes shape without the four realizing it, but the awareness of now being part of something bigger than each of them arrives during 2022. The first album is written in two improvised and unaware years and follows the time of the friendship that is formed. The second one, written in a few months, was also soon completed, just as grass grows quickly when the ground is ready. Struggling with work time, the first album, “another big city”, is recorded only in summer 2025, after five years of uninterrupted rehearsals. The project combines the seemingly incompatible influences of each of the four members, all multi-instrumentalists. Massimo plays the guitar as if he had a straw hat and an ear of corn between his teeth, he loves country à la Bill Monroe, but also the emo of Pinegrove, the plots of Genesis and the songwriting of De André and De Gregori. He studied fingerpicking guitar for years, until he realized there was too much to learn, so he stopped studying, and started writing. Riccardo is technical but emotional and, inspired by the sticks of Carter Beauford and Vinnie Colaiuta, his drums are a central element of the arrangements: it is no coincidence that the closest fans have renamed the band “Ricky ei tuttotace”. Federico's contribution to the band earned him the title of “lord of harmony”. Among his essential inspirations we must mention at least: Beatles, Artic Monkeys and Verdena. The furthest from the sound of tuttotace is Andrea who, having abandoned classical piano in the conservatory due to the discovery of AC/DC, grew up listening to Metallica and Tool. However, his (musical) sensitivity leads him to inspire his guitars from the shoegaze of Alcest and the post-rock of Mogwai. Without his compositional contribution the band's pieces would be long progressive rock suites without choruses and each song would last 15 to 20 minutes. Their music doesn't come from a single source, or even with a specific motive. They started playing to express themselves, rather than to communicate something specific. However, at least the texts speak in some way and they all share the need to verbalize what we cannot say in everyday life, but which we want to keep in mind. Thus, tuttotace's music ends up being a set of reminders: each lyric speaks of a sensation, but the arrangements transform it into something new, and the result is that each song says something that cannot be reduced to what the lyrics narrate, it refers to sensations that could not be remembered except by listening to that song. The music of tuttotace is aimed at anyone who recognizes themselves in this need. Text and music are equivalent and confusing, because music speaks and gives new meaning to words. Thus, everything is more than the sum of its four members, it is like a fifth person who says more than anyone would be capable of saying. He doesn't speak because he has something to communicate, but because he can't help but express himself decisively, even if he doesn't know what he wants to say. And so he lets out a scream, as if in the throes of joy or surprise.
At the moment, the tuttocice numbers more than twenty unpublished ones. Their goal is to reach as many ears as possible with music, increase the audience and see them involved in the songs, to the point of singing them with enthusiasm during concerts.
