Yes, in the new biopic on the life of Robbie Williams, the English artist will be played by a monkey. After months of rumors never confirmed by the production or director Michael Gracey, the first American screening of Better Man at the Telluride Film Festival.
It seems that the idea came to the director (already behind the camera for The Greatest Showmanas well as a producer of Rocketman) after reading a statement from Williams in which he called himself a “performing monkey”. Taken literally, thanks to the use of CGI technology, the former Take That has thus become a monkey on screen.
According to the first reviews, the film seems to confirm what Williams declared in 2022. Speaking of the film, the artist had given this image: “blood and guts and drugs and sex and alcohol and rock and roll to then get lost and finally find yourself again”. In fact, according to what was written by IndieWirethe public will see “a monkey bleaching his hair, partying with Oasis, snorting an absurd amount of cocaine and shooting up heroin, driving the wrong way while singing a pop song”. As confirmed by the comment of PlaylistWilliams' character will be the only ape in a world of humans.
Gracey previously said: “How Robbie is portrayed in the film is a secret. I want to do it in an original way. I want the public to think, 'I've never seen anything like this.'”
The film is scheduled for release on December 24.
