Billy Corgan collaborated with the Lyric Opera of Chicago for A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadnessan opera concert series that debuted Friday at the Civic Opera House in Chicago. And for the premiere, some of the most beloved songs from the Smashing Pumpkins' third album, which turned 30 this year, were clearly played.
In the lineup Tonight, Tonight, 1979 And Bullet With Butterfly Wings. Accompanied by the Lyric Opera Orchestra and the Lyric Opera Chorus, Corgan also played guitar on some songs. Soprano Sydney Mancasola, mezzo-soprano Zoie Reams, tenor Dominick Chenes and baritone Edward Parks joined Corgan as lead singers. The events are directed by James Lowe, who together with Corgan created new arrangements and orchestrations for the songs.
