Lana Del Rey has debuted her new single, “Tough,” featuring Migos rapper Quavo. “Tough” harks back to her “Born To Die”-era hip-hop influences. It’s also the queen of Hollywood sadcore’s first collaboration with a rapper since 2017’s “Lust For Life,” which featured guest appearances by The Weeknd (“Lust For Life”), A$AP Rocky (“Summer Bummer” and “Groupie Love”), and Playboi Carti (“Summer Bummer”).
Landa Del Rey and Quavo had already announced their artistic partnership last May, sharing an excerpt on Instagram, while the rapper had already joined Del Rey on stage at Boston's Fenway Park a week ago, to perform the song together.
Accompanying “Tough” is a music video directed by Wyatt Spain Winfrey, set in a rural landscape: watch it below.
The new single arrives just over a year after the release of “Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvs,” the latest album under the name Lana Del Rey, and previews the next, highly anticipated recording project that the American artist announced on stage at Billboard's pre-Grammy event on January 31. It will be the country album of the Hollywood sadcore muse and will be titled “Lasso.” “That's why Jack (Antonoff) followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, for the last four years,” the American singer explained. “Lasso” is scheduled for release in September.
“Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” her ninth studio album, was released in March 2023. Co-produced by Lana herself with Mike Hermosa, Jack Antonoff, Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, and Benji, it's a disarmingly honest record that celebrates the beauty of life. Last May, Del Rey unannounced a new single, “Say Yes To Heaven,” not included on her previous album.
On November 11, 2023, Del Rey received five nominations for the upcoming 2024 Grammy Awards. “Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” was nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Alternative Music Album, while the single A&W was nominated for Song Of The Year and Best Alternative Music Performance. Finally, the track with Jon Batiste, “Candy Necklace”, is nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
In Italy, the singer-songwriter of “Ultraviolence” is the tenth most listened to female artist of 2023 on Spotify and her album debuted in the top 10 of the best-selling albums.
