What should a band like Warkings, who arrived at the fifth test in the studio with “Armageddon” to the world? It would seem that the Teutonic/international formation – populated by musicians from Mystic Prophecy and others under the Napalm Record roster – returns three years after the previous album to stamp the card as usual, go on tour, participate in some German festivals included, and so on, strengthening that impression of 'built at the table' to play caretivating pieces beyond the limit Power Metal.
Despite the entry of the new and mysterious Morgana Lefay to the voice, which thus adds to the eucho of The Tribune, it seems that for this band there is no possibility of writing a record that makes us when you least get to the end without boring us mortally after six or seven songs.
The feeling of constant déjà-vu that you have when you listen to this modern power, full of very tough and coretti riffs ready to become 'viral' on social media, is to be listening to the same thing, as happens for example with the title-track, not to mention the ballad “Kingdom as” or “Kings of Ragnarök”.
Here and there, at least, two or three somewhat more significant episodes stand out, such as “Genghis Khan”, which sees the participation of the Orden OGAN, or “Circle of Witches”, where the new singer is totally left the microphone, allowing her to express themselves fully despite the song hard just less than three minutes.
The problem is that, from “Call to Arms” onwards, we really expire in the Fair of banality, despite the participation of the Dominum and the Subway to Sally respectively on “Hangman's Night” and “Stahl Auf Stahl”, passing from the unbearable Ballatona “Here Comes the Rain”: a song of a sincerely embarrassing cloying, especially in the festivals.
It is not that the Warkings do not know how to play, on the contrary, “Armageddon” is produced very well and shines at the level of the great productions of the now 'Hollywood' Teutonic scene, but, in the long run, it is – pass the quote – “Basically harmless“, Defective of that authenticity found instead in other formations 'arrived' chronologically before, for example the feuerschwanz or the same orden ogan.
We will probably never know if the Warkings are just a divertissement Of the musicians involved, or an operation planned at the table by Mother Napalm Records: of course, if you love the Teutonic Power Metal of the past, your ears will go elsewhere.
If, on the other hand, look for an album to turn off the brain while grilling yours Bratwurst Waiting for the bus to pass through Wacken or for the Summer Breeze to take you, or you want to introduce a teenager to the metal without traumatizing it too much, then you could also give a chance to “Armageddon”.
