Twenty One Pilots have shared the second song, “Next Semester,” from their upcoming album, Clancy, out May 17.
“Next Semester” is a restless blast of power-punk about wanting to begin again while still contending with what’s in the past. The song’s chorus centers around an inescapable memory, as Tyler Joseph sings: “I remember, I remember certain things/What I was wearing, the yellow dashes in the street/I prayed those lights would take me home/Then I heard, ‘Hey kid, get out of the road!’”
The song arrives with a music video directed by Andrew Donoho. It captures Twenty One Pilots playing “Next Semester” for a rapt, raucous crowd in a small club while also jumping to a scene similar to the one depicted in the chorus. The clip ends with Joseph leaving the stage and walking into the crowd as he strums a small guitar and sings the final refrain with help from everyone around him.
Along with dropping “Next Semester,” Twenty One Pilots announced a massive world tour in support of Clancy. The North American leg will kick off Aug. 15 at the Ball Arena in Denver and wrap Oct. 12 at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Dates in Australia and New Zealand will follow in November, with shows in Europe and the U.K. scheduled for spring 2025.
For the North American dates, tickets will go on sale April 5 at 10 a.m. local time. Fans can also try to secure tickets through Twenty One Pilots’ official artist pre-sale, which will begin on April 2. Full info is available on the band’s website.
Twenty One Pilots announced Clancy back in February, sharing the first single — and opening track — “Overcompensate.” The album is set to conclude a multi-album narrative arc that began with Twenty One Pilots’ 2015 breakthrough album, Blurryface. The story continued on the 2018 concept album Trench, where Clancy was the main protagonist, as well as 2021’s Scaled and Icy, which just happened to be an anagram for “Clancy is Dead.”
