Travis Scott was arrested in Paris after allegedly assaulting a security guard at a luxury hotel on Friday, August 9.
A statement from the Paris prosecutor's office said police were called to the Georges V early Friday morning to arrest a man “nicknamed Travis Scott for assaulting a security guard” (Scott's real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II). The guard was likely trying to stop another scuffle between Scott and his bodyguard. Police are still investigating the matter. Meanwhile, TMZ has posted video of the arrest:
Scott’s reps have not yet responded to Rolling Stone’s request for comment. The rapper was in Paris for the Olympics and was spotted watching the U.S. men’s basketball team play Serbia in the semifinals on Thursday.
Scott’s arrest in Paris comes just a couple of months after Scott was arrested in Miami on charges of public intoxication and trespassing. According to Miami Beach police, Scott was on the pier yelling at people on a nearby yacht. The man who called police didn’t want to press charges, so Scott was allowed to leave, but he reportedly returned to the scene, continued yelling, and ignored officers’ orders to leave.
Scott was released from prison after posting $650 bail. Not long after, he posted a quick “Lol” to X and shared a photoshopped version of his mug shot, edited with sunglasses and headphones.
Earlier this week, prosecutors dropped a drunken and disorderly charge against Scott, but he still faces a charge of trespassing after a warning.
Scott has faced a series of legal issues this summer, including a copyright infringement lawsuit that alleges he improperly sampled DJ Jimi's 1992 song Bitches (Reply) in two of his songs, Stargazing from Astroworld And For Further Notice from Utopia. Scott denied it and asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed.
In May, the rapper and others settled the last pending wrongful death lawsuit related to the 2021 Astroworld tragedy, in which 10 people were killed and hundreds injured in a stampede at the show. Scott has not been criminally charged in the incident.
